A single-jointed mouthpiece has one joint, which puts less pressure on the tongue than a double or multi-jointed mouthpiece. This mouthpiece acts mainly on the layers and sides of the tongue. A single-jointed mouthpiece is considered a standard mouthpiece.
The Baucher cheekpiece also known as a Hanging Cheek, is a version of the Eggbut, featuring smaller rings on top of the eggbut rings. The bridle cheekpiece is attached to those smaller top rings and the reins to the eggbut rings as usual. This creates a slight leverage effect.
